Ben Forbes Review of the Jack Rabbit II
The CST Jack Rabbit 2 29X2.35 was going to have a hard time going up against this die-hard Maxxis Fan, especially when going up against my current favourite tire, the Maxxis Rekon Race 29x2.4, which is the same style. But the CST Jack Rabbit 2 Impressed.
The stats speak for themselves.
- Maxxis Weight - 804g
- Rabbit Weight - 700g
- Maxxis compound - 3 compounds with 120tpi
- Rabbit compound - 3 compounds with 120tpi
Maxxis Tread - Small block style, bit of side knob support.
Rabbit Tread - Also small block but slightly better mud clearance which in theory may result in a slightly slower rolling resistance to the Maxxis but still rolls very fast, if not faster due to the 100g light tire. The Rabbit wins the side knows though making this a proper semi, this also means it’s not as progressive with the traction but if you learn to trust those knobs they will !
- Maxxis - $104.95
- Rabbit - $79.95
Conclusion
As I said I’m a die-hard Maxxis fan but The Jack Rabbit 2 may well be my new race tires for the @xterraplanet World Cup and they’re cheaper ! But if you prefer a smoother transition from the middle tread to side knob, the Maxxis Rekon Race is going to be your more predictable tire.
